SYLVIE LAURENCELLE-VERMETTE FIRST PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATOR IN MANITOBA TO RECEIVE GCCC’S CMP DESIGNATION

Winnipeg, MANITOBA – Sylvie Laurencelle-Vermette is the first professional communicator in Manitoba to successfully obtain the Communications Management Professional (CMP) designation, awarded by the Global Communication Certification Council (GCCC). The GCCC is an International Association of Communicators (IABC) initiative. To achieve the designation, candidates must meet criteria such relevant training and education, professional experience and knowledge of the field.

Roland Pajares, IABC Manitoba President, says demonstrating best practices in ethical and professional standards are paramount for IABC members.

“The CMP process assesses your core values and abilities: ethics, strategy, analysis, context, engagement and consistency.” Pajares says. “This means when you’re dealing with someone with a CMP designation – a designation recognized world-wide – you know you’re getting a principled, quality person.”

IABC Manitoba Vice-President Mekala Wickramasinghe adds: “I’m proud of Sylvie. She clearly demonstrates that she owns the knowledge and skills to serve any organization as a competent, ethical, and strategic communicator, something I know she does daily through her work as Regional Communications Manager at Radio-Canada.”

IABC Manitoba chapter leaders are excited about the road ahead as the organization enters its 47th year of operation.

“We’re more than sixty members strong from businesses across the Manitoba region,” Wickramasinghe says. “It’s time for us to celebrate IABC Manitoba and to promote the vital role communicators play at the heart of every organization.”

Celebrating the chapter’s 48th anniversary, IABC Manitoba is hosting a variety of professional development and membership events to bring communicators together to network and develop vital skills for their work.
