Great marketing makes the customer the hero. My life’s work has been focused on customer experience and how marketing and communications support this mission. As the principal of Winnipeg’s first and only social media and public relations agency, SPARKER Strategy Group, I have built a trusted reputation as a social media and digital marketing expert since 2011.

I am honoured and delighted to be taking on the role of president of IABC Manitoba. Twenty years ago, I joined this chapter as a novice in my field. A lot can happen in 20 years. In this new role leading IABC, I want to invite and welcome local communications and marketing colleagues, regardless of where you are in your career, to join as a member and mark your calendars for our upcoming events. If you are a student, there is a place for you in IABC Manitoba. If you are setting your career path or pivoting into unknown communications territory, there is a place for you in IABC Manitoba. And if you are a seasoned communicator who has been in the war rooms and fielded frantic calls as a crisis unfolded, there is a place for you in IABC Manitoba. Communicators are always leading. And in this age of quick missives and 280 character-speak, we must lead the way guided by our Code of Ethics and be the voices of trusted reason to our teams and executives.

As I take on this important role while on Treaty One territory, I want to bring a wider lens to the work we do as communicators and marketers. An inclusive lens focused on expanding the diversity of our membership and building a welcoming and inviting community where we learn and lead.
