Happy IABC #MemberMonth! To help celebrate, this month we are featuring not one, but two member profiles. First up is one of our new(ish) members, Sam Swanson!

Sam is currently working at the University of Manitoba as the Communications & Outreach Coordinator at the Centre for Earth Observation Science (CEOS). He’s also the founder of 204 Communications.

Sam is excited to connect with comms professionals from all walks of life.

“I joined IABC for a more active knowledge of professional practices in different sectors and throughout the dynamic areas of communications — I look forward to connecting with communicators across industries,” he said.

During the pandemic, Sam participated in a start-up competition which formed Compound Connect, a software start-up purposed with improving tools and technology for environmental research.

3 fun facts about Sam:

  • As an undergraduate student, Sam conceptualized and developed the University of Winnipeg’s online tutoring program so students with scheduling conflicts and accessibility needs can work with their favourite mentors remotely
  • He’s been a stage photographer for several music festivals, including Best Kept Secret Festival in Hilvarenbeek, Netherlands; WayHome in Toronto, Ontario; and the Winnipeg Folk Festival.
  • “I’m from Manitoba, and I was ranked #1 in the province in high school debate in 2001-02. I started high school the following year.”

Welcome aboard, Sam!
