“Six degrees of separation is the idea that all people on average are six, or fewer, social connections away from each other.”

Over the past six months, I’ve had one on one conversations with dozens of communications professionals in Manitoba. Some of them reached out to me after reading messages like this and some I started conversations with online after I saw they were following IABC Manitoba’s content. In some cases, virtual coffees were had.

In every conversation, one thing became clear. Manitoba’s communications community is the perfect example of six degrees of separation in action. And, who are we kidding, in Manitoba, it’s often more like two degrees of separation.

What began as chats between strangers quickly resulted in shared connections. More conversations than not ended with “say hi from me” to the person we learned we had in common. I’ve uncovered shared professors, growing up in neighbouring towns, and even a discovery of both holding the same role at the same company at one point. Each conversation is unique, but the “a-ha” connection moment is always there.

We also chat about IABC Manitoba in these conversations. People have questions and I’m here to answer. If you’d like to chat, connect with me on LinkedIn, which happens to be our platform of focus for our March event, How to maximize your LinkedIn profile.

Becoming a member, getting value out of your current membership or joining our Board of Directors can all begin with a conversation. Let’s have that conversation during Member Month in March, when a membership for new and renewing members is 20% off with discount code IABC20.
