Vice President, IABC Manitoba Board of Directors (volunteer)

Time commitment: Approximately 5 hours per week with lighter hours during summer
Term length: 2 – 3 years total
Succession: Automatic transition to the role of President, followed by a one-year term as Past President.

The Vice President is a key member of the IABC Manitoba executive team. Executive team members begin their volunteer journey as Vice President for one year, before ascending to the role of President, and then Past President.

The Vice President year offers candidates on-the-job-training and management experience assisting with organization and delegation, to prepare for the President year. Part of that experience is the rare opportunity given to the Vice President to forge strong relationships with communicators across western Canada and build a network of peers who will assume the role of President for their respective IABC chapters. This is one of few opportunities in Manitoba to raise your public profile as a local communications professional and sharpen leadership skills you may not have yet in your day job.

What you’ll do

  • Represent IABC Manitoba at Canada West Region meetings, votes on region issues, and shares regional news and requests with the Manitoba Board of Directors. Regional meetings are held monthly (online) and annually (in person).
  • Act as secondary leader of the chapter – Leads board activities as requested by President or in President’s absence, recruits volunteers, provides counsel and support to President. Reviews and updates board job descriptions and by-laws as required.
  • Assists in the recruitment of committee members and chapter leaders.
  • Attend meetings (e.g., board meetings) in person and online.
  • Act as board buddy to fellow members of Board of Directors, providing guidance and recommendations.
  • Participate in online community for collaboration with fellow board members.

DIRECTOR OF MARKETING & cOMMUNICATIONS AND dIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP (Volunteer)

Raise your public profile as a local communications professional and collaborate with peers from organizations across Manitoba by joining the IABC Manitoba Board of Directors.

We’re looking for a Director of Marketing & Communications (2-year term) and a Director of Membership (2-year term).

What you’ll do:

  • Director of Marketing & Communications: Oversees what’s posted on our social media accounts and website; coordinates newsletter; recruits Marketing Committee members; leads the volunteer who does the writing and posting.
  • Director of Membership: Engages our current members with networking opportunities and 1:1 emails; considers how to attract new members; manages recruitment campaigns; conducts annual survey of the membership

Director of Finance (Volunteer)

 

 

  • Prepares annual chapter budget in cooperation with president and board.
  • Main account holder for IABC MB bank account, and Paypayl Account, IABC MB Finance Folder in the Google Drive, IABC MB finance hard copy folders, and secondary account holder for Eventbrite
  • Main contact for all IABC Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivables
  • Keeps financial records and bank accounts for the chapter.
  • Prepares profit loss statements for each event within two weeks from the event date, and send the profit loss statement to the Event Manager, and CC the president and the vice president
  • Responsible for all Accounts Payable and Receivable activities (Frequency – once a month)
  • Scan and save all Profit Loss Statements, Expense and Income Invoices, Receipts in the Finance Folder for IABC MB – In case we are audited, we need these records
  • Attend as many events, and obtain the accurate attendance record from the Event Manager. If you cannot attend a certain event, ensure the Event Manager send you accurate details
  • Ensure all the ticket revenue is received at the event 
  • Monitor Eventbrite Payments, and advise the Event Manager if more promotion is needed to increase the ticket sales
  • Prepares mid-year report and tax forms for IABC Headquarters. (Typically the deadline is early to mid February, and the report should cover July 1 – December 31 finance records)
  • Create a small presentation at the Strategic Planning Session to make the board aware of the upcoming budget. 
  • Educate the board on our budget at the board meetings (currently, IABC MB runs on a very tight budget, and you will play a major role in helping IABC MB to develop a better budget so we can provide more opportunities for our board and our members)
  • Trains successor.
